Record number of tribal entities received grants for FY26

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) is awarding $3.8 million in grant funding to 45 entities through the Cooperative Marketing Grant Program for fiscal year 2026.

NMTD will again be instituting a 2-to-1 funding match for FY26, meaning the financial commitment from NMTD is double what grant partners are contributing for the fiscal year. As a result of the department's 2-to-1 commitment, the total advertising investment for this program in FY26 will be $5.7 million.

"Continuing to administer this program with 2-to-1 matching funds, we're able to enter another year with expanded resources at a time where tourism promotion remains incredibly important," said Acting Tourism Secretary Lancing Adams. "I'm especially grateful to see the increased participation from tribal partners this year."

Roughly 69 percent of FY26 grant recipients represent rural regions of the state. In total, rural regions of the state will receive $2.4 million in grant funding through this program. Five Native and Indigenous communities and entities received grant funding that totaled $75,084 for FY26, which is a record number of grants issued to tribal partners for this program in a single fiscal year.

"The Tourism Department is committed to welcoming more tribal partners into our services and grant programs that support tourism promotion and development," said Tribal Tourism Development Officer Jey Bernal. "We're very pleased to welcome a record number of tribal partners to the Cooperative Marketing Grant Program for FY26 and we're hopeful to welcome more partners to this program and others in the future."

The Village of Ruidoso received the largest grant for FY26 at a total of $613,942 after submitting a grant application that provided a very detailed and strategic vision for how to promote tourism for the region. Overall, NMTD has contributed over $1.3 million in cooperative marketing support to the Ruidoso area dating back to last year.
