SANTA FE– The New Mexico State Treasurer's Office (STO) will begin a series of community events to share information about beneficial State Treasurer's Office programs and engage in community discussions to collaborate with and offer support to local governments; school, water, and special districts; the disability community; banks; and community organizations.
The first visit of the series will begin September 9th, 2024, in Las Cruces and Alamogordo.
Beyond managing over $17 billion, the State Treasurer's Office is strengthening its programs, including the State Treasurer's Achieving a Better Life Experience (NM STABLE) program, which helps members of our disability community save and invest without losing access to essential benefits, and Financial Empowerment for Women. The Treasurer is also undertaking initiatives such as implementing financial literacy as a high school graduation requirement, Baby Bonds, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in fund management.
"Outside of my constitutional and statutory responsibilities, I made a commitment to work with all New Mexicans to bridge the gap of inequity, and I believe the initiatives we are pushing forward will help us get closer to that goal," said Treasurer Montoya. "These community events are intended to share knowledge and work together in collaboration with local leaders," said Treasurer Montoya. The Treasurer's Office will be meeting with school districts in Las Cruces and Alamogordo to discuss the importance of financial literacy in our school curriculum.
Treasurer Montoya will also be hosting the New Mexico State Treasurer's Office Community Share and Listen event with several community organizations and local leaders. "This is the start of a statewide initiative to visit as many communities and community leaders in New Mexico as possible because, at the end of the day, we love our state and we want everyone to succeed because we are all in this together," said Treasurer Montoya. "Thoughtful discussions with local leaders are the basis for implementing effective, meaningful, and lasting progress. I look forward to working with leaders across New Mexico to ensure every New Mexican has the tools and opportunity to succeed."
The New Mexico State Treasurer's Office Community Share and Listen event will take place at the Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (3880 Foothills Rd., Las Cruces, NM 88011) on Monday, September 9th, 2024, at 3:30pm. This event is open to the public.
