NEXT WEEK: N.M. Congressional Delegation To Host Virtual Information Session on Military Service Academy Nominations Process
ALBUQUERQUE – At 6:00 p.m. MT on Thursday, April 18, U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, and U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury, Teresa Leger Fernández, and Gabe Vasquez will host a Virtual Q&A Session for New Mexicans interested in attending a U.S. Military Service Academy.Â
The conversation is an opportunity for high school students and recent graduates to ask questions about the nomination process for appointment to U.S. Military Service Academies. The New Mexico delegation will be accepting online applications for nominations to enter an academy in Fall 2025.Â
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, N.Y. Each member of Congress is allotted a limited number of nominations that they submit to each academy.Â
Interested applicants can visit Senator Heinrich's Service Academies Nominations webpage and the other New Mexico Delegation members' websites for information on how to apply. The deadline to apply for a nomination for each of the congressional offices is October 14, 2024.Â
