Rio Grande Fire
Update: Response crews worked through the night on the Rio Grande Fire and were able to raise the containment percentage to 10%. Two divisions were established on the north and south sides of the fire, which had moved into the vegetation alongside the
Bosque Farms community. Crews today will look to improve containment lines and continue extinguishing interior hot spots within the bosque area. Acreage on the fire decreased to an estimated 60 acres, although more accurate GPS mapping will commence today.
The Rio Grande Fire was discovered at 3:53 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 on Bureau of Indian Affairs jurisdiction, west of Bosque Farms, in Valencia County. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Weather: Currently 62 degrees, 21% RH, southwest winds at 11 mph with gusts to 20 mph. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for today. Scattered showers predicted after noon. High near 48. Winds 15-20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Tonight, scattered rain showers before 8pm, then scattered rain and snow showers between 8pm and 11pm.
Evacuations / Closures: Evacuations were lifted. Please continue to avoid the area due to response crews working and fire activity.
