MarinGGenaro Marin, 97, a lifelong resident of Hurley, NM, entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara, NM, surrounded by his family. He was born August 6, 1926 in Hurley, NM to his parents Jose and Salome “Chole” (Jaurequi) Marin.

Genaro retired from Kennecott Copper Mines after working 29 years in the smelter as a tapper and slag train engineer.  He met and married his wife Erlinda (Duran) Marin in 1949.  Together they raised their five children in Hurley.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in his early life.  He adored his family, and his grandchildren/great-grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He will be dearly missed by all who love him. 



Genaro is survived by two daughters, Lillian Arsola with companion Rolando Zuniga of Silver City, NM and Doris Marin of Silver City, NM; his three sons, George Marin and wife Doris of Phoenix of Phoenix, AZ, Bernie Marin and companion Teresa Madrid of Bayard, NM and Genaro “Tito” Marin of Silver City; his one brother, Joe Jr. Marin and wife Bertha of Hurley, NM; his fourteen grandchildren, George II, Michelle, Bernie “Sonny,” Amanda, LeAnn, Nolan, Joseph, Genaro III, Steven, Michael, Roque, Lakeisha, Azuriah and Reagen; and his numerous great and great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Erlinda; his parents, Jose and Salome (Chole) Marin; his grandson, Reagen M. Arsola; his two sisters, Delfina Arsola and Mary Gomez; his six brothers, George, Chalo, Enocencio (Chenchito), Lino, Manuel “Manny” and Jesus. 

Genaro’s services will all be held on Friday, November 3, 2023.  Visitations will be at 9:30am-10:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the Holy Rosary commencing at 10:30am, recited by Deacon Richard Maynes.  The Funeral Mass will take place at Infant Jesus Shrine at 12:00pm with Father Casmir Anozie officiating.  The Interment will follow the mass at Hurley Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his beloved, Erlinda. 

Pallbearers are Nolan and Joseph Parra, Reagan Arsola, George II Marin, Steven Marin and Gabriel Marin.  Honorary pallbearers are Genaro Marin III, Michael Marin, Roque Marin, Sonny Marin, Mandy Marin, LeAnn Marin, Michelle Gutierrez, Lakeisha Arsola, Azuriah Arsola and all of his great and great-great grandchildren.
