AriasEElvira Martinez Arias, 95, a long-time resident of Deming, NM, born January 21, 1929, in Moris, Chihuahua, passed away on July 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and integrity. She was a devoted mother who worked tirelessly to provide for her many children and grandchildren. Known for her infectious laughter and culinary skills, Elvira's fresh tortillas, empanadas, tamales, and menudo were a staple in her household. She also found joy in crocheting baby blankets, canning fruits, and vegetables, roasting chile, peeling pecans, and spending early mornings outdoors gardening and tending to her animals. Elvira was humble and giving, always putting others before herself, and constantly caring for her grandchildren with endless love.

Elvira is survived by her sons, Miguel (Jennifer) Arias, Arturo (Candace) Arias, and Gerardo Arias; and her daughters, Alma (Raymundo Marrufo) Arias, Maria (Francisco) Flores, Estella (Jorge) Ortiz, and Lucy Arias; her nephew Antonio Martinez, and nieces Amparo Martinez Reyes, and Maria Martinez Burciaga. She was a beloved grandmother to 39 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to 50 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends and caregivers Marta Armendariz and Elvira Saenz Jimenez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miguel Arias Chavez; her parents, Manuela Baldenegro and Dionicio Martinez; her brothers, Manuel, Candelario, Chayo, and Antonio Martinez; her sisters, Luz Martinez, and Fernanda Rivera; her sons, Rafael, and Carlos Arias; her daughter, Armida Arias; and her grandchildren, Anke Flores and Jonathan Arias.

Pallbearers for Elvira's service will be Ricardo Ramirez, Brian and Brandon Noriega, Zion Arias, Xavier Valdez, and Raymundo Marrufo Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Miguel Arias, Arturo Arias, Raymundo Marrufo, Francisco Flores, and Jorge Ortiz.

Elvira's life was a testament to hard work, love, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. We were blessed to have her in our lives and will forever carry on the life lessons and beautiful memories we were blessed with. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will begin Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 4 to 6 o'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapel. Recitation of the holy rosary will then be recited at 6. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 11 o'clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery where Elvira will be laid to rest beside her husband. Fr. Prakasham Babu will officiate.

Fue una amada abuela de 39 nietos y una querida bisabuela de 50 bisnietos; varios sobrinos y sobrinas, y sus maravillosas amigas y cuidadoras Marta Armendáriz, y Elvira Sáenz Jiménez.

Es precedida en muerte por su esposo, Miguel Arias Chávez; sus padres, Manuela Baldenegro y Dionicio Martínez; sus hermanos, Manuel, Candelario, Chayo y Antonio Martínez; sus hermanas, Luz Martínez y Fernanda Rivera; sus hijos, Rafael y Carlos Arias; su hija, Armida Arias; y sus nietos, Anke Flores y Jonathan Arias.
