Alex Barragan Provencio, 73, of Silver City passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Visitation will begin at five o'clock in the evening on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City. The Holy Rosary and Prayer Vigil led by Deacon Bill Holguin will take place at six o'clock. The Mass of Christian Burial for Alex will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at St. Francis Newman Center in Silver City. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. Father Ephraim Ezulike will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Frank Arias, Jacob Rodriguez, Austin Alcorta, A.J. Parra, Joe Ray Diaz, and Reagan Hernandez.
Honorary Pallbearers are Tanya Morales, Joseph Kirker, Rudy Jacquez, Fidel Jacquez, Eric (Gordo) Holguin, Jerry Andazola, Benny Madrid, Ray Gutierrez and Russ Provencio.
Alex was born April 17, 1951 in Santa Rita, New Mexico to Brijido (B.L.) and Lasara Provencio. A mechanic since he was a young boy, Alex began a career in the mining industry working as a power plant mechanic until his retirement. He always welcomed everyone into his life and treated them as Family. He loved to spend Friday nights with friends. Alex loved listening to music and was a gifted guitar player. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and would often volunteer his time to the Guadalupanas, helping to cook for the fiestas at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Toni Provencio; son, A. B. Provencio Jr; daughters, Pauline Rodriguez and Amanda Martinez (Ben); his grandchildren, Brandi Alcorta (Eric (Gordo) Holguin), Austin Alcorta (Breanna Melendrez), Alexandra Provencio, Ashley Provencio, Joe Ray Diaz, A. J. Parra, Reagan Hernandez (Bianca Castillo), Jadelynn Rodriguez, great-granddaughter, Alina Marie Provencio; sisters, Mary Arzaga, Margie Dominguez, Sally Provencio, Lorraine Estrada (Chris) and Lilly Rodriguez (Joe Long). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, several godchildren and his favorite dog, Chapo.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Brijido (B.L.) and Lasara Provencio; brother, Arturo Arias, brothers-in-law, Alvino Arzaga and Joseph Rodriguez and nephew Jason Rodriguez.
