Armando "Mundy" Young Amador, 72, an Army Veteran and resident of Bayard, NM, entered into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born on October 22, 1951 to his parents, Guillermo Rel and Emilia (Young) Amador in Hurley, New Mexico. 

Armando, also known as "Mundy" truly led an amazing life, filled with challenges, adventure, testimonies and memories. A man with many odds stacked against him, backed by faith and family, he prevailed through it all, until our Savior called him Home. 

In 1970, met the love of his life Yolanda Garcia and at the age of 19 he was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1972.  He returned to his love and they wed June 30, 1973, in Infant Jesus Church in Hurley NM. In 1984, he proudly completed his Cursio at St. Mary's Chapel and Convent in Silver City, with many of his brothers in Christ by his side. He was employed at Kennecott Copper Mines where he worked his way up to lead repair man. He was a union man working with OSHA and MSHA for 15 years until he retired due to medical issues.  During his years of retirement, he enrolled himself into Western New Mexico University where he obtained his Bachelor's in accounting. While attending WNMU, he involved himself in many student activities and honor organizations. He was the President of Cardinal Key and traveled throughout the United States guest-speaking at many Universities. After graduation, he was sent to Georgetown University to study Veterans Law to better understand Veteran benefits and entitlements. Upon his return, his passion became to organize a Veterans chapter known to many as Vietnam Veterans Chapter 358 where he also served as President of the Chapter. He assisted over 250 veterans obtain their social security and veterans benefits for over 40 years. His long-time vision was to create a Veterans Memorial. After much hard work, dedication and support of many other veterans and community members his vision came to fruition. The Forgotten Veterans Memorial was established in 2006. In 2008, Mundy was recognized and named "Citizen of the Year" by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce. Chapter 358 was heavily involved in many community functions to include Color Guard duties, Holiday Food baskets for the needy, school activities and taking part in the 4th of July parades which he loved doing. He also enjoyed being involved with Little League functions, helping coach his children's baseball teams and organizing many other functions for Copper Little League.

Armando was a humble man of God, everything in his life was guided by the Lord. He was a kind, loving, giving, happy soul full of life, who loved to dance and sing.  He shared his wisdom, his embraces, his smiles, his humor and his prayers. He was an amazing artist, musician, poet and carpenter and leaves his family, friends and his fellow brothers in arms, with so many memories to reminisce and cherish. In the 72 years that the Lord blessed him with, he and his wife built a legacy through their 51 years of marriage. Together they have raised 7 amazing children, blessed with 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, in which his memory will continue to live through.  Mundy was a very well-known and respected God-fearing man and he will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know him.

WE ARE BROUGHT INTO LIFE TO TRAVEL INTO THE CENTER OF OUR DESTINY.  DESTINY, HAS A PURPOSE FOR WE ALL MUST SEE THAT WE SHALL ALL GET THERE.  FOR IT IS THE BEGINNING OF ETERNAL LIFE.  DEATH, BECOMES A GIFT OF LIFE AND A STEP TO ETERNAL LIFE.  THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL IS WE SHALL LABOR THE SUFFERING IN THE GLORYFICATION OF ETERNAL LIFE.

Armando is survived by his Loving wife Yolanda (Garcia) Amador; his children Armando (Debbie) of Albuquerque. Annette (Derek) of Clearwater, FL, Adam (Kari) of Las Cruces, Aaron (Desirae) of Bayard, NM, Alan of Albuquerque, Andrew (Andrea) of Brooklyn Park, MN and Angelita (Lou) of Albuquerque, NM; His Grandchildren Laelani, Larissa, Alyssa, Robert, Carmen, Catrianna, Aleczandr, Cole, Kendall, Autumn, Ruslan, Ace, Penelope, Ezmi, Alaysia, Noah and Lincoln. And one great-grandchild Luna.  He is preceded in death by his parents Guillermo and Emilia Amador of Bayard, NM; his siblings, Louie, Viola, Senaida and Ronnie Amador Sr; his grandchild Liliana.

The visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 5:00pm-6:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the Holy Rosary commencing at 6:00pm, recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez.  The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 9:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, officiated by Father Martin Okonkwo. Following the mass, Mundy will be laid to rest with his fellow Military Hero-Brothers at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at 11:00am where he will receive Military Honors.  Pallbearers are Armando Amador, Jr., Adam Amador, Aaron Amador, Alan Amador, Andrew Amador and Ruslan Amador.  Honorary pallbearers will be his siblings Arlene, Ruben, Felix and Joe Amador, Derek Strader and Lou Moss, his nephews Tony Salinas, Louie and Ron Amador Jr., his niece Valerie Barragan, Jaime Kirker, Niko Medina, Fred and Michael Garcia, PJ Garcia, Chapter 358 and the rest of his God children and family.
