CordovaBernadineThe Rosary for Bernadine Cordova, currently of Fort Sumner, will be recited at 9:00 AM, Mon., Jan. 5, 2026 at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.  Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:00 AM. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary for her loved ones in the Silver City area will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City. A private committal service will follow.

Her children will be honorary pallbearers.

Bernadine Cordova was born May 20, 1965 in Santa Rita, NM to the home of Siria (Merino) and Pedro Garcia and passed from this life on Dec. 26, 2025 in Lubbock, TX.  Ms Cordova was a 1983 graduate of Silver City High School.  She continued her education at Eastern New Mexico University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and a second one in Family and Consumer Sciences.  Later she earned a Master's Degree from Highland University in Social Work.

For 15 years she was employed by the Portales Public Schools as a licensed Social Work Counselor.  She later worked at the Social Services office, WIC, and CYFD.  She was an Adoption Consultant as well as a Youth Transition Specialist helping young people transition from Foster Care into independent adult living.  Since June of 2025, she had been employed as the Head Behavioral Health Supervisor at Guadalupe County Correctional Facility in Santa Rosa, NM.

Ms Cordova was very involved in the Catholic church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters.  Currently she was a member of the Ft Sumner Court, San Antonio de Padua #2774 and a deputy director for the state organization. She enjoyed walking her dogs and gardening in addition to being an avid reader.  She enjoyed a variety of genre, including Science Fiction, Romance and especially History.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carlos Quinones of Albuquerque and Maximus and Lauren Cordova of Portales; four daughters, Anastasia Quinones of Denver, CO, Victoria Huber and her fiancé, Jesse Moore of Denver, CO, Angel Calderon and husband, Gerardo of Portales and Janice DeLeon of Clovis; three grandchildren, Liam Quinones, Orion Cordova and Lemmy Kauffman as well as Caspian Cordova who is expected to be born in May 2026; four brothers, Roberto Garcia of Austin, TX, Alfredo Garcia of Casper, WY, Robert Torrez of Inglewood, CA and Benjamin Torrez of Palmdale, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as by two brothers, Horace and David Garcia.
