Geneva May Adams, 83, of Portales, NM, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 17, 2024.
Geneva, daughter of Charles Gilbert and Lola May (Prestridge) Gardner, was born on July 20, 1940 in Deming, NM. She spent most of her younger years in the Silver City area. Her most treasured, memories are from the time her family lived at the Shrine Mine. Her parents moved to Hatchita where she graduated from High School in 1958.
Geneva married WH Adams Jr., on June 28, 1958 in Animas, NM. They were blessed with five children, which they raised on the family ranch until their divorce in 1974. Geneva remained in Animas and raised her children there until 1988. After a short time in Gila and Bayard, Geneva moved to Portales to be closer to her daughter, Bettine.
She was a great cook and enjoyed her time working for Hurt Cattle Company, cooking for the cowboys, three square meals a day, all from scratch. Her hobbies included arrowhead hunting in Animas, painting ceramics. Knitting and crocheting for her family and friends. After moving to Portales, she continued to bake goodies for Bettine's students.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lola, her sisters, Dorothy Taylor, Norene Tow, and her son, William Henry Adams III. She is survived by her brother, Charles (Jacque) Gardner of Silver City; her daughters, Bettine Adams of Portales, NM; Cheryle (David) Jones of Animas, NM; Tammy (Chris) Wood of Yukon, OK; her son, Wyatt (Kitty) Adams of Los Lunas, NM; five grandsons, four granddaughters, four great grandsons, seven great granddaughters; many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will take place at Gila-Mesa cemetery on Saturday, January 27th at 3pm with her son in-law, Chris Wood officiating. Pallbearers are Kyle Jones, Dustin Jones, Kaycee Jones, Kody Jones, and Stan Gardner.
