MaynesJasper2Jasper Arenibas Maynes Senior peacefully passed away on September 25, 2024, at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM. He was seventy-seven.

He was the youngest of ten children born to Santa Rosa and Manuela Maynes. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Manuelita Maynes and his four sons, Jasper (Lisa), Andrew (Tanya), Adrian (Rebecca Zeilman), and Jonathan (Marcia) Maynes; 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Manuela and Santa Rosa Maynes; brothers, Tomas, Felix, Manuel, Valentin, Arnulfo and Santa Rosa Maynes; sisters, Lucy Garcia, Margaret De La O and Felicitas Gomez.

Jasper was a lifelong Deming resident, graduating from Deming High School in 1966. Following a six-year stint in the National Guard from 1966 to 1972, he began a career in the construction industry. He was a talented artist, surveyor, and concrete contractor, ending his career with the New Mexico Highway Department in 1999.

Jasper adored hunting and camping throughout Southern NM with his brothers and compadres, including Manny Casillas and Edward Chaires. He had a passion for cooking and was best known for his chile Colorado, green chile with beef, and his celebrated salsa.

Jasper was most proud of his devoted wife and four boys. He passionately promoted academics and beamed with pride when all four of his children graduated college. And while he wanted commercial success for his children, being true to local cultural roots and family ties was his lifelong priority, "just be…yourself."
