OLearyKevinKevin Patrick O'Leary, 69, of Silver City, NM, was tragically killed in a bicycling accident on November 23, 2024. Kevin was born on February 27, 1955, to Raymond and Rita O'Leary in Quantico, VA. He lived in several states growing up and graduated from Tongue River High School in Dayton, Wyoming.

With bachelor's degrees in History and Electrical Engineering, and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Kevin had a very engaging career working for Texas Instruments in Midland, TX, Rockwell International in Atlanta, GA, and VLSI Technologies in Phoenix, AZ. He was able to retire early and spent the last twenty years of his life undertaking challenging adventures. Kevin was known for being passionate about whatever he was doing, so when he started hiking, he didn't just go hiking. He completed both the Pacific Crest Trail (from Mexico to Canada) and the Appalachian Trail (from Georgia to Maine) multiple times.

He hiked the Continental Divide Trail. He also devoted much of his time to helping maintain the trails for others to enjoy. Between the hikes when he was back home in Las Vegas, Kevin could be found in the poker rooms enriching his bank accounts. He spent one winter in India, traveling from town to town on buses or trains, absorbing the Indian culture and enjoying the hospitality of all he met there.

Kevin's attention eventually turned to cycling. He completed numerous epic journeys, riding his bike throughout North America following several different itineraries. Some of these include trips from Alaska to Mexico, from Colorado through Mexico and all the way to Costa Rica, and a couple of trips throughout Mexico. It was at the beginning of another winter-in-Mexico trip that he was hit by an errant driver and was killed just eight miles from the Mexican border.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Rita and one brother, Sean. He is survived by his siblings, Michael and Sandra (of Indiana), Timothy and Peggy (of Wyoming), Patricia (of Colorado) and Eugene and Kathleen (Saghi) (of Colorado) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was studious, generous, thoughtful and kind and will be missed terribly by those lucky enough to call him "brother", "uncle" or "friend".

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no memorial services, and his ashes will be scattered in the places where he felt most at home. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that those so inclined make donations to organizations that he himself would have supported.
