Luis Montoya Cordova, 87, a resident of San Lorenzo, NM entered eternal rest Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born October 11, 1937 in San Lorenzo to Anastacio and Epifiania (Montoya) Cordova.

Luis, or Papa Louie as his grandchildren liked to call him, enjoyed traveling. When his army compatriot invited him to visit Ohio, Luis met the love of his life, Patricia, "Pat" in 1962. Shortly after Luis and Pat married, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they welcomed their 3 children, Patrick, Maria and Antonio (Tony). In his heart of hearts Luis was a rancher so he soon moved his family back to San Lorenzo. He loved working the land he grew up on. He shared that love with his children, but especially his son, Tony, and his granddaughter Samantha. Passing down the lessons he learned from his own father brought Luis great joy. Luis loved the Mimbres and San Lorenzo communities and never hesitated to help whenever needed. He was a devout Catholic and was very active in the San Juan and San Lorenzo Mission churches. May he rest in peace in the arms of Jesus.

He is survived by his loving wife Patricia Cordova; his sons, Patrick Cordova of Las Cruces; Antonio "Tony" Cordova of Las Cruces; his daughter, Maria Schneider of Hanover; three grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dylan and Samantha Cordova; numerous niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Horace and Severo Cordova; two sisters, Frances Cordova and Viola Higgins.

Visitation will be Friday, March 21st from 10-10:30am at the San Lorenzo Church with the holy rosary to commence at 10:30am with Jovan Banares reciting. The funeral mass will follow at 11am with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating. Concluding service, the interment will take place at the San Lorenzo cemetery. Pallbearers are Rick Valencia, Johnny Valencia, Randy Schneider, Antonio Cordova, Josh Cortes, and Samantha Cordova. Honorary pallbearers are Art Duran and Bobby Orosco.
