Luisa Montaño Quarrell, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara, NM. She was born August 19, 1932, to Eusebio and Maria Montaño in Deming, NM.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eusebio, and Maria; her brothers, Anthony, Manny, and Ralph Montaño; her sister, Lola Valverde, and her son, Mike A. Quarrell. Luisa is survived by her sons, Eddie, Danny (Bernadette) and Frankie (Betty) Quarrell all of Silver City, NM; her younger brother, Victor "Chapo" Montaño of Deming, NM and her baby sister, Annie (Freddie) Camuñez of Concord, CA and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
Luisa was very proud of the fact that at 54 years of age, she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Western New Mexico University in May of 1987. She was employed, until her retirement, with the Cobre Consolidated Schools as a school social worker within their Special Education Department.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 5 to 6 o'clock in the evening at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Deming. The Holy Rosary will then be recited at 6 led by Deacon Tony Quarrell. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10 o'clock in the morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church followed by the rite of committal and internment at Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will include all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
