August 4, 1952 - December 10, 2024

Church services took place at the Hurley Community church at 9:30 on Jan. 24, 2025, followed by burial at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, and followed up at the Hurley Store for a celebration of Life.

Rebecca (Becky) was born at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Parents were Kenneth and Ann Henderson. Becky had a twin brother Kenny.

Their father being Military they traveled when the kids were younger. One of her fond memories was of being stationed in Japan. The family finally settled in El Paso.

Becky had worked at the phone company when it was "Ma Bell," as a telephone operator. Then she went on to be a line woman, even getting her CDL to drive the big trucks.

There was a time when she was climbing one of the poles and fell down. She was very shook-up. This was back when she smoked, so she grabbed a cigarette and with trembling hands lit it. When she was finished she put it out and went back up the pole. When she was heading back up the pole she heard someone clapping. There had been a man on the ground, who apparently had seen what had happened.

After retirement from the phone company she went back to school to become a nurse. Following in her mother's footsteps. She was very proud of being able to do this. Becky's nursing career and with involvement with the church, she was able to go to Africa and help.

Becky met Don in 1984 through mutual friends from Hurley. They both loved Hurley and the surrounding areas which was one of the reasons they came back to Hurley and Silver City after retirement.

Becky had a wonderful knack at whatever she touched to be able to make it shine. She loved to garden. One year she did try a straw garden. It came out very well. That was the only time Don ever d mentioned about the price of vegetables being cheaper at the store compared to how much the straw cost.

Becky got a laugh out of their dog Smoky helping himself to the tomatoes. Acting like he had won the Grand Prize.

Becky and  Don had been given the loom that Don's father built. They both took classes and profoundly excelled in it. Becky had a wonderful hand for sewing. She made and fixed many quilts. Making quilts and sewing little books for the grandkids and great grandkids. Becky loved being involved with the church and choir.  She was a wonderful woman believing in God, faith, country and Love.

Deeply proud of being a member of the Republican women's group. Becky has always been tough and a fighter. She was definitely ready to fight for her party. There were times, I was ready for her to tell me that they were heading to Washington to have a "March" to fight for  their beliefs.

Becky is survived by her husband Don of 37 years. Two sisters, Carolyn and Catherine and brother John, as well as daughter Rhonda and spouse Rob, along  with 5 Grandkids and 6 Great Grandkids.. She was preceded in death by brother Kenny.

Becky was so witty and smart and very knowledgeable on so many subjects.

Her warming smile and comforting hugs are missed.
