It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of REYNALDO "REY" MARTINEZ, on January 2, 2025 surrounded by family in Tucson, Arizona. A devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and Army veteran, Rey lived a life marked by dedication, courage, and selflessness. He was 78 years old.
Rey was born on April 11, 1946, in Lordsburg, New Mexico the son of Jose Abran Martinez and Manuela De La Rosa Martinez.
On March 19, 1965, Rey enlisted in the US Army and served in Vietnam earning among other awards, the VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL, VIETNAM CAMPAIGN MEDAL (with device), COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE and GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL.
Rey was a loving and devoted husband to Lorenza "Lorrie" (Bejarano), father to Joseph (Terry), Andy, AnJanette (David), and Melanie. He was an adoring Grandfather to Candice, Stephanie, Linda "Kita", Damon, Marc, Julian, Lorena, Emilio, Jacqueline and Andres; Great Grandfather to Braylon, Kellen, Kierdan, Noah, Luis and Camila.
Rey loved fishing, keeping himself busy with projects and watching old western movies/TV Shows. He especially loved telling stories, making jokes and pranking to all who he would have contact with. He always had a Vietnam Veteran ballcap on his head, a smile on his face and treated everyone with kindness and respect. He was always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it. An extremely proud veteran, he served as Commander, VFW Post 3099, Lordsburg, N.M.
He is survived by his wife Lorrie, all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother Manuel "Chemo", numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, fellow veterans, and neighbors whose lives he enriched.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Adelia, brothers Joe and Abran, and nephew Nathan "Tito".
Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 9 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where a Rosary will begin at 10 am to be led by Carlos Bejarano. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 o'clock with Fr. Tom Smith officiating. Concluding services and interment with honors will be at Lordsburg's Shakespeare Cemetery.
Rey will be forever remembered for his unwavering love, strength, and service to both his country and his family. He truly was a hero in every sense of the word.
