...Cold winter conditions expected over the next 24 to 48 hours...

A strong Pacific cold front will be moving out of the Four Corners area this afternoon and sweep south across the Borderland late tonight into Tuesday morning. The frontal passage will produce
gusty north winds of 30-40 mph overnight through the Sierra Lakes region/Luna and Dona Ana Counties, and also the Tularosa Basin
through El Paso County. Wind gusts still brisk other areas, but not quite as strong. The brisk winds will create apparent temperatures of 5 to 15 degrees in the mountains and 15 to 25
degrees across the lowlands.

Winds will diminish later Tuesday, allowing airmass to chill to the coldest temperatures of the season Wednesday morning. Low temperatures at this time are expected to be around 15 to 25
degrees lowlands and 10 to 20 degrees in the mountains. Apparent
temperatures both mornings will be quite similar, trading brisk
winds Tuesday for lower ambient temperatures Wednesday.

Wednesday will remain on the cool side before we begin a warmup
Thursday, and especially Friday into the weekend.

People are urged to protect outdoor equipment such as exposed
pipes, and also to protect/prepare pets for the cold weather.
