On September 26, 2024, the commission held a regular meeting at the city annex building.
Raymond De La Vega, Stantec project manager, had two maps to show the commission. Recently the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources had done the studies and Lidar scans on the ground water and aquafers. They had been delivered to Stantec. The basis on the design report has been 50 percent completed and have just been waiting on the EPS model.

The town of Bayard held a regular meeting September 23, 2024. Attendance included Mayor John L. Ojinaga, Mayor Pro Tem Eloy Medina, councilors Eloy Gonzales and Gilbert Ortiz. Frances Gonzales didn't attend. Martha Salas, city clerk/treasurer also attended.
Consent agenda
The council approved the consent agenda that included minutes, police department report, wastewater treatment plant report and accounts payable. Gonzales asked about the new software and when they would start using it. Salas said they would be starting Caselle, government software, in November. She told the council city hall may have to close for a day to make the transition from the old to the new and have everything integrated.

The Cobre Consolidated School Board held a regular meeting on September 23, 2024. The meeting took place at Snell Middle School. Board members in attendance included Gabriella Begay, Gilbert Guadiana, David Terrazas, Angelina Hardin, and Emmarie Heredia. Superintendent Michael Koury also attended.
Dottie Pfeifer with Kiwanis attended to present the student of the month awards.

Events from Sept. 27-Sept. 29, 2024, surrounding the 150th anniversary of the founding of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City featured music of a Christian singer on Friday evening, lectures on the history of the church on Saturday morning, a banquet with the Las Cruces Diocese Bishop Peter Baldacchino serving as keynote speaker Saturday evening, a Sunday morning mass held at the Western New Mexico University Fine Arts Center Theatre to hold the crowds expected, and a gathering at Gough Park following mass.
Saturday morning, Dr. Don Montoya, retired physician and church historian, gave a presentation on the research he had uncovered about the church since its beginning.

The Grant County Beat has received calls on Monday afternoon, Oct. 7, 2024, reporting smoke north of Silver City. According to U.S. Forest Service staff, the Redstone Prescribed Burn was ignited this morning on 571 acres east of Highway 15 between Signal Peak and Meadow Creek roads. The burn area has been closed and a pilot car will lead traffic along Highway 15 through the closure.
Ignition will continue through tomorrow, staff said, and the rest of the week firefighters will monitor the area to hold the burn in place.
