Silver City, NM — August 28, 2025 — The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability invites the community to celebrate connection, community, and resilience at the 4th Annual Gala in the Garden on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 6:00–10:00 p.m. at The Commons, 501 E. 13th Street, in Silver City.
We are beyond honored to have this year's Gala in the Garden sponsored in loving memory of Alex Olsen and Martyn Pearson. Alex's culinary arts lessons to students and bringing in families for movie nights, are remembered fondly. This year's theme, Gather & Grow encompasses looking at what nourishes us, even beyond food, and prepares us for a thriving future.
Our theme, "Gather & Grow," brings our NEW mission to life: to cultivate food security, self-sufficiency, and sustainability in Grant County. Guests will enjoy a beautiful fall evening filled with delicious food prepared by guest Chef Paul Edwards and his team from Tucson, Arizona, live music, garden ambiance, and a silent auction featuring local items.
The Gala is not just a celebration — it's a vital fundraiser that supports both our ongoing and expanding work to meet the real and rising need for food access in our community. New Mexico remains among the top states for food insecurity, and Grant County is no exception.
Thanks to community support, The Commons is growing in new and exciting ways, including:
Commercial kitchen access and technical assistance for food entrepreneurs
Culinary and gardening education for youth and adults
Expanded volunteerism and engagement through revitalizing The Volunteer Center
Fresh, nutritious food access through creative, client-choice food distribution models
How You Can Help:
We invite local businesses and individuals to:
