You don't have to be glued to your phone to enjoy the City Nature Challenge. Camera-users can upload their photos directly to the iNaturalist website and enjoy even more features than those of the phone-based apps. Experts will be available to help upload the photos you took over the weekend, quickly add location tags, and identify species.

The plantings at the Silva Creek Botanical Gardens and Waterworks are in full bloom! Come see what wild insects, birds, and lizards can be found among the garden. This urban gem is easy to access year-round and demonstrates how biodiversity can flourish in the midst of human neighborhoods.

tweet-tu-tu-weet! Calling all birders! The Bird Alliance of Southwestern New Mexico will be leading a walk through the riparian habitat of the San Vicente Creek trail system. Participants will enjoy native speckled dace in the stream and willows along the shady banks, but the real highlight, of course, will be the birds that call this oasis home. We hope to see nesting black hawks, busy acorn woodpeckers, rowdy kingfishers, and colorful early migrants along the trail.

The New Mexico Bootheel is one of the most biodiverse regions of the entire United States. Join the Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (ARC) as we take part in an outing along a portion of the Continental Divide Trail that crosses through the Bootheel of Grant County. If we're lucky, we'll see horned lizards, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, raptors, and signs of other animals walking the trails! We will also have ample opportunity to see different desert vegetation, desert invertebrates, and plenty more in this beautiful habitat!

Hike the Dragonfly Trail with local naturalists to see what species live within the dry plains and pine-juniper habitats of Grant County. If the creek is flowing, we will see who is flocking to this water source. Along the way, we will discuss how to identify animal signs (footprints, scat, and maybe bones), listen for birdcalls, and appreciate the abundance of desert wildflowers that bloom during wet springs.
Accessibility: This 3.5 mile loop trail is mostly packed dirt and sand. Half of the trail is flat and wide; narrow path, uneven surfaces, and multiple slope changes throughout the other half. Little to no shade on trail. Wheelchair-accessible vault toilets at trailhead. No drinking water available.

This kid-friendly event is a part of the Gila Valley Library's Friday lecture series. Pollinator gardens aren't just good for bees. They feed a wonderful diversity of insects and birds, as well as provide friendly habitat for other wild plants, fungi, and animals. We'll tour the pollinator garden and community orchard at the library, play fun biodiversity-themed games, and document the amazing biodiversity focused on in the library's garden. Kids are encouraged to bring a phone or tablet with the iNaturalist app already downloaded!
Hosted by Silver City Watershed Keepers and the Gila Valley Public Library
