SANTA FE, NM The New Mexico State Parks Division announces thatdue to the flooding that has damaged the City of Las Vegas water system,water will be turned off atStorrie Lake State Park until further notice.¯

¯ On Friday, June 21, heavy rain produced flooding that brought ash and debris in unprecedented amounts into the reservoir from the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak burn scars, delaying the processing of water by the water treatment plant. Currently, water restrictions remain in effect for the City of Las Vegas to conserve the limited water supply available. ¯

In all construction zones, motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and use extreme caution, as well as continue to be cautious of heavy equipment and construction personnel in the area. PLEASE NOTE: Conditions are subject to change without notice. Double fines for speeding in work zones may be in effect.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, June 28, 2024 Fire crews are responding to a lightning fire start within the Sandia Mountain Wilderness on the Sandia Ranger District of the Cibola National Forest & National Grasslands. The fire was first reported yesterday evening during a thunderstorm weather system. Yesterday evening, NM Forestry Division Bernalillo District responded and disengaged due to firefighter safety of threatening weather to access the location. The location has been identified on US Forest Service (USFS) land within the Sandia Mountain Wilderness.

SANTA FE – This week, Senate Republicans and community leaders from New Mexico traveled to Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Texas for a high-level meeting with representatives from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Governor Greg Abbott's Office, the Texas Border Czar, the Texas Military Department, and the Texas Facilities Commission. The multi-agency delegation examined collaborative efforts that have resulted in a substantial reduction in illegal border crossings, drug smuggling, human and child trafficking, and related fatalities.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (N.M.) is cosponsoring two bipartisan bills, both led by U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas), to strengthen border security at ports of entry: 

The Securing America's Ports of Entry Act would fully staff America's airports, seaports, and land ports of entry by requiring U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to hire at least 600 additional officers a year within the Office of Field Operations (OFO) until the agency's staffing needs are met.  

The July 4th Tailgate event at the Museum of Space History typically scheduled in conjunction with the City of Alamogordo's annual fireworks display has been cancelled. The International Space Hall of Fame Foundation, which hosts the event at the museum, stands with the decision made by the City Commission to postpone the fireworks show until a later date. 

"In light of the recent devastating fires in our neighboring communities of Ruidoso and Mescalero, and the heroic efforts of area firefighters to assist, the Foundation supports the decision to postpone the annual July 4th fireworks show to a later date," said Foundation Chairman Cliff Hudson. "We encourage everyone to celebrate July 4th safely and to be aware of the dry conditions." The City of Alamogordo has not made a decision as to when the fireworks show will be postponed to, but are considering moving it to an event later in the year.
