The town of Bayard held a regular meeting July 22, 2024. Attendance included Mayor John L. Ojinaga, Pro Tem Eloy Medina, councilors, Frances Gonzales, Eloy Gonzales and Gilbert Ortiz. Martha Salas, city clerk/treasurer also attended.

Terrazas Funeral Chapels owner Luis Terrazas told the Beat about his plans for a vacant lot near the funeral home.
"I am invested in the Mining District, and I want to continue to invest in the Mining District," he said.
He noted he went to the Village of Santa Clara to learn the boundaries of the lot and their map was not up-to-date, but he has since found a marker.

The June 11, 2024 Grant County Commission work session continued with the review of the June 13, 2024, regular meeting.
The only elected official report at the regular meeting came from Sheriff Raul Villanueva. He commended everyone who had responded to the Rodeo Road fire on June 1. "Fortunately no one got hurt. We did have an evacuation plan in place, and the (Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and) Conference Center was open for evacuees. Law enforcement knocked on doors to tell people they needed to evacuate. I commend staff for putting their lives on the line every day. I also commend Deputy Mize for helping save a life at the Mimbres Senior Center."

Public hearings have been set up in locations in Arizona and New Mexico to receive feedback on the proposals.

I have learned today that at least two people have NOT received the mail-only ballots for the school bond election. If two contacted the Beat, I suspect that many more have not received their ballots.
If you are a registered voter, you should have received the mail-only ballot sometime last week, if you live in the Silver Consolidated Schools Districts.
However, according to the Grant County Clerk's Office, if you have not received your ballot, yours may be in the inactive pile, which includes the ballots that were returned due to inaccurate addresses.
