The Grant County Commission declared two proclamations, both at District 3 Commissioner Alicia Edwards's request at its special meeting on April 23, 2024.
She read the first one which proclaimed May 2024 as Mental Health Awareness Month. Commissioners approved the proclamation.

Silver City Police Department officers were dispatched to Juniper Street and Silver Heights Blvd. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 8:16 p.m. in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. According to an SCPD incident report, when officers arrived on scene, they observed a female, later identified as Miranda Ybarra, 30, of Silver City, lying on Juniper Street. Ybarra was described by officers as having severe leg injuries and cuts throughout her body.
Officers made contact with the driver, Jeanne Martin, 81, of Silver City. She stated after crossing the intersection of Juniper Street and Silver Heights Blvd, she continued north on Juniper Street and did not see Ybarra crossing Juniper Street and did not have time to stop to avoid a collision.

Today Natalia registered and voted for the first time as a U.S. citizen

At 28 years old, Natalia left Guadalajara, Mexico by bus in 1972 and traveled 1500 miles to Tijuana, Mexico. When she arrived in Tijuana, she asked the people at the hotel she stayed in if they knew anyone who could help her get to the United States, and they put her in touch with a man who could help her. The coyote charged her $250 and took her to the border in his vehicle. When they arrived at the point of entry, the agent asked Natalia if she was an American citizen and she responded with a question, "What?' Then he looked at her and said, "You are!"

The Cobre Consolidated School Board held a regular meeting on May 13, 2024. Board members in attendance included Gabriella Begay, Gilbert Guadiana, David Terrazas, Angelina Hardin, and Emmarie Heredia. Acting superintendent Michael Koury also attended.
Mireya Zapata, student representative, attended to give the board a report. "The bathrooms at the Cobre baseball field are beyond disgusting." Many times, they have been flooded and generally they do not have soap or toilet paper. The sound system needs repair. The students have not been happy about Cobre High School Principal Erin Brown-Meeks not returning next year. "She is always there to work with the students." The students also have expressed not being happy about some of the teachers being let go and said they didn't deserve it. The constant change in leadership will not allow the students to grow.

The Silver City Museum sponsored old time tradition from the earlier days of Silver City at the Old James Stadium Saturday May 18, 2024. The game started with the Gaffney-Oglesby Marine Corp League Chapter 1328 color guard posting the colors and Keana Huerta singing the Star-Spangled Banner.
Patsy Madrid threw out the first pitch for the Flacos and Gordos teams and Raul Turrieta served as the MC for the event.
