The display will be at the Museum through January 8, 2017. Even though Silver City is known as an art destination, Chicano art is not as visible in the overall picture as it could be. Curators, Silvia Rueda and Angelica Padilla, have brought together a few artists that reflect the diverse styles of local Chicano artists. Some of these artists are well-known in Silver City’s art scene and some are not. The curators see this exhibit as a beginning to a more visible presence of vibrant Chicano art in Silver City. Featuring artwork by Fred Barraza, Jose Juarequi, Brittany Juarequi, Ramon Gomez, Silvia Rueda, and special invited guest artist, Arizona-based Vicente Rodriguez. An opening reception will be held from 3-5 pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Silver City Museum. Come see the artwork and stay for a performance by Mariachi Canto a mi Tierra from the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez (UACJ). The band will play from 4-5 pm and then a town-wide Ofrenda Procession will kick off from the Silver City Museum as part of the wider Día de los Muertos celebrations.
