The second public meeting for the 2026 update of the Grant County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) will be held January 22nd at 6:00 PM at the Grant County Administration Building in the Commissioners Meeting Room. The public will also have the option of attending the meeting virtually. The focus of the meeting will be on wildfire risk assessment. Favorable conditions in place for hazardous fuels reduction work
QUEMADO, N.M., Jan. 12 — The Quemado Ranger District on the Gila National Forest plans to implement prescribed fire operations this week, pending all required approvals. We estimate this work to continue through the coming weeks as weather and environmental conditions allow. We use prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.

According to a Hurley Police Department representative, the department has no officers employed at the present time. All calls are being handled by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. However, HPD Police Chief Kevin Vigil is on duty and is accepting applications for police officer positions.

Sometimes, they are not even the best pollinator for a particular plant species. Diane will delve into different insect taxa that carry – or don't carry – pollen, showing that a diverse fauna is needed for robust pollination services.
