SILVER CITY, NM – The Murray Ryan Visitor Center is hosting a new exhibit of work by local artist Val Weston in the Visitor Center's Art Alcove, April 4 through June 1, 2025. The exhibit's opening reception will take place on Friday, April 4, 2:00 - 4:00 pm at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center, 201 North Hudson Street in Silver City. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Weston is a photographer and digital artist who uses modern tools to create artwork across the themes of life that connect us all — from the nature around us to the world we've built. "Val's unique artistic process captures the beauty and magic of both our southwest landscape and everyday scenes," said Marcia Tinker, local artist and curator of the Murray Ryan Visitor Center's Art Alcove.

Caller was very irate and was talking about his house being destroyed/was hardly able to understand what caller was saying/a female was mentioned and that she was upset/male disconnected the line. Dispatch called back and they were uncooperative, cursed, and disconnected the line again. Officers – it is (redacted)/ATLing the area.
Silver City, NM, March 30, 2025—After having to postpone last month, Joclynn Palmer, a victim advocate at El Refugio, will be the guest speaker at the April 1st, PFLAG meeting, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan. Light refreshments will be served.
According to El Refugio's website, the organization's mission and goal is to provide the doorway that is essential to a new life without violence and a path to taking control and restoring self-respect through their services and programs. Trained victim advocates assist with filing Domestic Violence Protection Orders, provide support at court hearings, and advocate for client needs. Silver City, NM – March 30 – The New Mexico Recovery Coalition (NMRC), in partnership with Silver City's cannabis wellness club, Grateful Living, has proudly introduced New Mexico's first and only naloxone vending box. Strategically placed within the Grateful Living storefront, the vending box offers free Narcan (naloxone) to the public during store hours thus providing life-saving resources to address the ongoing opioid overdose crisis.
On April 16, 2025, from 11:15 am to 2:00 pm, the HMS Mimbres Valley Senior Center will host the New Mexico Area Agency on Aging (NMAAA) case management meeting. Resources will be available to offer to the seniors within the community, including assistance with ramps, roof issues, and more. Two case managers, Amanda Martinez and Mia Garcia, will be available to assist any senior age 60 and up. We invite all seniors out to our Mimbres Valley Senior Center to come receive assistance and access the needed resources. Carol Ann Fugagli will give an update on the status of the Gila River.
"For nearly 30 years, the Upper Gila Watershed Alliance (UGWA) has served as a local force in protecting the Gila River's wildlife, water, and soil. Our work encompasses educating young people, empowering youth, safeguarding springs, ecological restoration, and the New Earth Project- an initiative focused on climate solutions that will be elaborated upon," Fugagli said.
Carol Ann Fugagli is the Executive Director of the Upper Gila Watershed Alliance. She is an ornithologist and conservation biologist who has recently shifted her focus from birds to the microscopic world of soil. She is passionate about the potential role of microbes in carbon sequestration. She underwent Climate Reality training with former Vice President Al Gore and is collaborating with partners worldwide to engage the agriculture sector as a carbon-negative industry.
