QUEMADO, NM, Sept. 18, 2024 – As summer draws to an end, the Gila National Forest is preparing recreation facilities for winter. At Quemado Lake Recreation Area, Piñon and Juniper campgrounds will close for the season on September 24.

"We're wrapping up another busy camping season at Quemado Lake, shutting down the water system to avoid freeze damage and closing the gates at Piñon and Juniper campgrounds next week," said District Ranger Randall Chavez. "Other campgrounds on the Quemado Ranger District remain open year-round for self-supported dry camping – the nearest of these to Quemado Lake is El Caso Campground."

Grant County Art Guild Studio is hosting the Hiram Lewis Exhibition. Two weekends, Oct 11-13 and 19-20. Opening reception 5-7pm Friday, October 11 during the annual Weekend at the Galleries. In part because of Lewis' unique nature, but more so because the work gnaws at you with expectation to interact, to argue, to say something, or at least think quietly in your own head. He contorts the spirit of his subjects into visual acts that then exist whole unto themselves.

Heidi Pendleton, director of the Guadalupe Montessori School, will speak to Rotary about the school, which was established in 1979 and has served Grant County families for more than 40 years, providing programming for children aged 18 months through 12 years old that includes a state-funded Mixed Age Pre-K program. Three vehicles with hazards on/two were involved in a crash/negative injuries/Luna County advised en route shortly. Deputy advised they ran over something. Luna County denied/advise for NMSP to handle/NMSP advised ETA 20 minutes.
