Light Art Space is pleased to present Enchanted Flowers, a showing of the Japanese art of Ikebana and baskets. Work by Alice Fujita, Bill Nolde, Naomi Laffinghans, and David Schwarz are featured. Work on display through November 3rd.
You can learn this art and create your own thanksgiving center piece in a workshop November 24th.

November 3, at 10:00 am, 3845 North Swan Street – "Songs by Local Singer Kim Jensen"
Singer-performer Kim Jensen will sing from her repertoire of gospel, inspirational and jazz songs on Sunday, November 3. She will share how the music connects to and influences her personal life experiences.
Kim Jensen has lived in Silver City since 1972. After retiring from the Phelps Dodge Mine, her father became pastor of the Word of Life Ministries congregation, and she began singing in his church. Her interest in music and stage performance continued as she obtained a degree in Music at WNMU.
She has performed in several WNMU Broadway musicals, including "Fiddler on the Roof," "Nunsense" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." She played the lead - Laurie - in "Oklahoma" and directed "A 'Seussified' Christmas Carol."

PROGRAM: A Guide to Raptor Identification for Beginning and Intermediate Birders
WNMU Harlan Hall, Room 111, Silver City
Karen Beckenbach, William (Bill) Norris and a "Special Guest" will provide an overview of raptor identification featuring Vultures, Eagles, Accipiters, Buteos, Harriers, Ospreys and Falcons that regularly occur in southwestern New Mexico. Emphasis will be placed on plumage variation, appearance in flight, migration and general biology of each species. This presentation will prepare attendees for the upcoming winter Raptor Count. Brought to you free of charge by the Bird Alliance of SW New Mexico.

End of Life Options New Mexico (EOLONM) local volunteers will be showing death related films from 10 am to 3 pm on November 2, 2024 in honor of Day of the Dead at the Silco theater. Viewing is free and suggested for those over 14.
Each film will be followed by a discussion involving audience members. "Death is a subject many people in our culture avoid. It happens everyday, but we rarely see it, because it is accompanied by harsh realities, " says group member Dr. Twana Sparks. "People are often reluctant to have necessary conversations with others. They neglect to plan." Karen deGenevieve FNP adds, "It is so important that your next of kin and family know and respect your wishes."

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) in conjunction with Mountain States Constructors, Inc. (MSCI) will be holding a Public Information Meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Hurley Community Center for the upcoming US 180 4-Lane project, CN# 1101841. The project limits will be from Bayard to Hurley (just south of the railroad track crossing) milepost 123.13 to 128.27 for 5.14 miles.
