For Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and political agnostics alike, these are uncertain, perhaps even frightening times. But just because the outer political world seems to be increasingly uncertain and unstable, that doesn't mean that your inner world can't be grounded, clear, and calm.

Silver City -- As part of the Silver City Museum's ongoing community conversation series, Curator Javier Marrufo will discuss his ongoing work on the Chihuahua Hill History Project, which tells the story of the Chihuahua Hill neighborhood through the voices and stories of the people who call the area home. The event is free-of-charge, and will be held July 31 from noon to 1 pm in the ABC Room of the Besse-Forward Global Resource Center on the WNMU campus.
"Given my life-long connection to this neighborhood, I am truly fortunate that my career path allows me to study its history, and to make meaningful contributions to our community," Marrufo said. "It's a privilege to be part of this storytelling project, and we are very grateful to the Chihuahua Hill residents, past and present, for their willingness to share a part of their lives with us."

Precipitation lowers fire behavior, lightning brings new fires
SILVER CITY, NM, July 22, 2024 – Gila National Forest firefighters were kept busy over the weekend, chasing numerous lightning strike fires as they continued to work the Lolo, Ridge, and Paramount fires. Widespread precipitation was delivered to the forest over the weekend, ranging from about a half-inch of rain at Mogollon to 2.15 inches of rain at Luna.
Fire activity is winding down on the Ridge, Lolo, and Paramount fires, after each of them received significant rain over the weekend. The Lolo Fire is 100% contained, with no smoke visible over the weekend. The Paramount Fire is 99% contained, with some residual interior heat and smoke that may be visible during the hottest period of the day. The Ridge Fire is 75% contained with a few sources of heat smoldering in interior heavy fuels. A trail closure remains in effect for the Ridge Fire.
