Most Italian farms are small – 11 hectares (27 acres) on average – and produce quality regional specialties. The northern part of the country produces meat and dairy products, grain and soybeans, while the southern part of the country produces fruits, vegetables, olive oil, wine and durum wheat (pasta wheat). To learn more about Italy’s agricultural trade operations, policies and latest innovations in the industry, the New Mexico Department of Agriculture has organized the 2024 Agricultural Innovation and International Trade Mission to Italy.

Heinrich Resolution Designating May 18 as “Kids to Parks Day” Passes Senate

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M), a member of the National Parks Subcommittee of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, applauded the Senate’s passage of his bipartisan resolution designating May 18, 2024, as National Kids to Parks Day to empower young New Mexicans and their families to get outdoors and enjoy healthy outdoor recreation.  

Started in 2011 with the National Park Trust, the fourteenth annual Kids to Parks Day kicks off a summer-long series of events at local, state and national parks. The Senate passed the resolution by unanimous consent.

State Invites Public Comment for NM Match Fund Implementation

DFA to host engagement & discussion webinars on May 22 & 28  

Santa Fe, NM — The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) invites state agencies, tribal governments, counties, municipalities, political subdivisions, and the public to provide comments and feedback on the draft policy. Participants in the public review process can access the draft policy here. DFA will consider all public comments received by the end of the day on May 31, 2024.

NM State Parks Recognize National Safe Boating Week

SANTA FE, NM – Your New Mexico State Parks are embarking on the summer recreational boating season with an important and timely message – Life jackets save lives! Wear it!/Chalecos Salvavidas Salvan Vidas, Usalos! 

“Annually our State Park Rangers are faced with tragedies on the water involving people who died because they were not wearing a life jacket or were participating in unsafe activities on or near the water,” said Toby Velasquez, State Parks Director. “National Safe Boating Week is an important reminder before the Memorial Day weekend that wearing your life jacket should always be a top priority on New Mexico’s waterways.”

NM Awarded $28 million in Community Wildfire Defense Grants

 Funds to advance local wildfire mitigation efforts 

Santa Fe, NM – The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s (EMNRD) Forestry Division  wishes to congratulate the eleven recipients of the latest round of federal Community Wildfire Defense Grants. See below for a complete list of awardees.  

Funds totaling $28 million will be administered by the Forestry Division and are provided through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Recipients were selected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service to help communities plan for and reduce their risk from future wildfire events. Risk reduction and planning state-wide aligns with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s efforts to promote climate change resilience and build community capacity to withstand wildfire.

Santa Rosa, NM – The New Mexico State Parks Division announces the temporary closure of the boat ramp at Santa Rosa Lake State Park due to a significant water release by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
