Traffic Alert Update

Motorists should expect roadway closures. 

 SILVER CITY- The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District One along with Highland Enterprise Inc. (Contractor) will be continuing a maintenance operation project to place "chip seal" pavement on NM 152, NM 35, and NM 15 in Grant County. The chip seal process is a surface treatment that is placed on the existing pavement. It is designed to seal out moisture and create a more durable surface extending the longevity of the roadway.

It was physical and male left in a gray Toyota. Deputy had negative contact with parties/spoke to caller who advised everything was verbal.

Advised she is being kicked out of her house and she resides there/a named male is putting everything outside and he threatened to hit her/she is outside, and he is inside the home. Deputy advised everything is okay/parties are separated/female will be leaving to another location.

Someone defaced a Jewish flag and egged the property. Male on skateboard from Grateful Living starting fights with people. Second caller on 911 advised people from Grateful Living are fighting behind Independent Ink/they are harassing one guy because he is Jewish.

Caller advised her daughter has been missing for 31 hours. Caller called back advising she just walked in the door. Officer made contact/she is okay.

Cameron Creek project includes portion of Fort Bayard area trail system

SILVER CITY, NM, May 17, 2024 – The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District is assessing conditions in preparation for burning Phase 2 of the 2,010-acre Cameron Creek Prescribed Fire project. Given suitable conditions, crews hope to ignite portions of the planned prescribed fire unit as early as the week of June 3. An area closure will be in effect during the prescribed fire. The exact date of ignition will depend on weather and fuels conditions and firefighting resource availability. 

Silver City -- The next meeting of the monthly "Life Cafe" takes place Thursday, May 23, at 4:00 pm at the Silver City Public Library, when former Hospice worker and end-of-life caregiver Siridharma Khalsa will discuss end-of-life options available in New Mexico. The monthly, 90-minute life cafe is free, and facilitated by Lisa Jimenez, certified death doula and practitioner of Shamanic healing arts.

"It's so important that everyone become educated about what their end-of-life options are here in New Mexico, get clear about their personal wishes and share those with their loved ones and their primary care provider," said Jimenez. "This is a great opportunity to learn about those options and understand how to be better prepared for death."
